This month, we’ve been chatting with small business organizations to learn more about what they do, why they do it, and how they use technology to further their success.
Tell us about your business.
Patrick Albrecht: I run a tech consulting business in Atlanta and the surrounding areas. We offer our help with anything tech related: websites, databases, apps, network setup, home automation, new device setup, etc. The company was founded in 2010.
Who are your customers? What problem is your company solving?
PA. Our customer base is everyone who owns a device, whether it’s a desktop, laptop, mobile or smart watch. We simplify tech for both the residential and commercial user and remove the frustrations from technology. We also customize apps and databases that strictly solve the workflow issues of each individual client.
What inspired you to start your business?
PA. After earning a computer science degree and a culinary degree in Munich Germany, I went the restaurant route. What I quickly found is that the restaurants I owned became a large tech experiment where I would try out different modern technologies to run the restaurant. As the experiments grew more noticeable, I became recognized by Apple who ended up shooting a web commercial about my use of the iPhone in business that they then posted on their site. This set off a fire storm, and I started to be pulled in a different direction. Now out of the restaurant business, I’ve received recognition from other large companies like Evernote, Quickbooks, and Fujitsu. I’ve been involved in several presentations on the subject of going paperless and using technology in the 21st century, (hence the “21” in the name). This path led to an interview with Entrepreneur.com. I have also had the unique pleasure of being called in for user interface suggestions on several software platforms.
What advice would you give to someone who is aspiring to start their own business?
PA. Do it! From nothing comes nothing. You only get out of life what you put in. If you have an idea for a business try it out, do the research and start off small. You never know if that crazy little idea that you might think is mediocre could be your million dollar baby. Be willing to accept common startup mistakes and learn from them.

PA. One of the first things that we implement with each company is the ScanSnap iX500. Once that happens, our clients see one of the most drastic changes we can offer. First and foremost the filing cabinets empty, sometimes rooms full of filing cabinets. It’s difficult at first to convince clients that all the necessary paper around their office is causing inefficiencies, but a few weeks down the road they’re spending less time filing, and more time talking to customers.
