Get ready – because the little ScanSnap iX100 brings exciting possibilities to having a paperless life! Don’t be fooled by its size. Not much bigger than the stapler on my desk, this powerful little device had me scanning everything piled up underneath that stapler that I use as a paperweight. At 14 ounces it even weighs less than the stapler!
Like most mobile professionals, I have a desktop computer, laptop, smartphone and tablet. Since I travel a lot, I decided to try setting up the laptop first. Within less than 5 minutes, after the software install, I was speedily scanning receipts, business cards, and documents – all wirelessly. I was impressed by the quality of the results. The faded receipts actually became more readable in their digital form and I could even feed them side-by-side, two at a time!
The iX100 is a rechargeable, wireless device as is my electronic tablet, so I went to the tablet next. Within seconds of installing an app on the tablet, I was effortlessly scanning paperwork into my cloud-based apps (Zoho CRM & Dropbox among others) as searchable PDFs. This wouldn’t be the case if I simply took a photo of the document (which saves as a picture). It took an instant to give my smartphone the same power to convert paper into digital documents!
This part of my test took place out of range of my office Wi-Fi network yet, the tablet and smartphone still found the scanner due to the Wi-Fi service built into the scanner itself! With this unique feature, that means when I’m outside the office, in a client’s office, virtually anywhere – I’ll use this amazing scanner to capture copies, email attachments and free myself from the endless scribbled notes, business cards, and piles of paper I have to manage in both my home and work lives.
The iX100 is a must for every mobile warrior and travelling professional who handles paperwork and documents when they are outside the office, in the car, and especially when working out of hotel rooms! For those who have multi-person offices, there will be no more walks down the hall to stand in line at the workgroup scanner. It is the perfect little tool that will fit on every desk to replace the piles (AND perhaps even the stapler) that normally reside there!
